Association of British Insurers (ABI)
The ABI is the trade association for most insurance
companies and has codes of practice which its
members must follow. It will take up complaints
about its members. Although it does not operate
an arbitration procedure and cannot insist that
any of its members follow a particular line of
action, it can exert pressure to resolve a dispute.
If the problem is not resolved, or if an insurance
company is not a member of the ABI, you should
complain to the General Insurance Standards Council
or to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
